Copy/paste cells with URLs transforms text values

If you copy a cell with URL-like value, e.g. “a=1&b=2&c=3&d=4” and paste it into another cell, “&” sign is transformed into “&”.

Is that a feature? And if it is, is there a way to turn it off?
