Handling special URL characters with dropdown selector

Hi,
I have a cell dropdown where the selected option may have text such as a greater than sign “>” but once selected it is displayed in the cell as “& gt;” (no space between & and g) not sure if this something I have done inadvertently but can’t seem to find anywhere I have.

Any assistance would be great.

can you share a demo where this issue can be replicable?

I have tested it here http://jsfiddle.net/78fqmg8v/ on Chrome, Windows 10 and did not get any unexpected results.
