How to Make Filter Dropdown Auto-Deselect Like Excel?

Hello, I’m able to do everything I need with Handsontable except for the behavior of the filter dropdown.

In Excel, when you start typing in the filter dropdown’s search box, it automatically deselects all other choices, so you can immediately click “OK” to filter based only on your search.

With Handsontable, however, typing in the search box doesn’t deselect other choices. Realistically, users have to manually click “Clear,” then type their search, then select the elements they want to filter on. That’s too many steps for end users.

I’ve searched for a solution, but it seems that since version 14+, this behavior can’t really be changed. Is that correct? Is there any workaround?

If I’m not being clear, I can upload a short GIF to show exactly what I mean.

Thank you.

Hi @flo6991

That’s correct. Such functionality isn’t supported by our filtering plugin. As you mentioned, it was possible to use a workaround previously, but currently due to the internal changes within the plugin it’s no longer possible.

In my opinion, the way it works now is not very intuitive. Is there any hope for a future update to improve this aspect ? Is there a way for me to suggest this ? What would be the best way to proceed ?

Currently we don’t have plans to alter this behavior but that might change in the future.

I completely agree with you — this feature would be really helpful if they manage to implement it. It’s also quite difficult to identify duplicate values in the input
