this is not a question about using formulas to calculate a sum. basically this is a convenience feature. when we highlight certain rows in excel - it shows the sum at the bottom bar automatically. it is a very handy mechanism .
even google sheets does that - take a look at this screenshot (http://imgur.com/4jAbuQ3). it shows max, min, sum, etc.
can this be done in handsontable ?
